In Venice the biennale 55th International art exhibition begins on June 1st and runs until 24th November at the Encyclopaedic Palace.
The world famous opera at Verona opens the doors of its incredible roman amphitheatre on June 22nd until the end of August.
The awe inspiring pageantry of the Il Palio horse race in Sienna takes place once again during the period 2nd July to the 16th August. You can pre-book a ticket (you need to do so well in advance) or try for a free standing place if you get there very early.
The ever popular Umbria Jazz festival takes place in the historic city of Purugia 5th to 14th July. This is the fortieth anniversary of the event and with Diana Krall and Dee Dee Bridgewater appearing it should be great.
Italy is the spiritual home of opera and the Rossini opera season is one which many look forward to, this year it opens on the 9th August and ends on the 22nd August in Pesaro where the composer was born.
Once again the Palazzo del Cinema hosts the Venice film festival from 27th August to 7th September 2013.

It would be hard to get through a list of events in Italy without mentioning food. In November in the Tuscan hill town of San Miniato you attend the white truffle festival.
There is another white truffle festival in Alba during weekends between the 6th and 13th of November. Sample ravioli with truffle sauce and other such delicacies.
In second week of December the opera season in the world famous La Scala in Milan commences.
