The region is renowned for its rivers and valleys and excellent cuisine. Perhaps its greatest asset is that the area remains so un-spoilt and even in the height of summer it can be incredibly peaceful and relaxing. In contrast, the bustling, sophisticated city of Bordeaux is positively buzzing with activity. Most of the time you will want to relax at your Dordogne villa with a pool, but it's good to know there is plenty more to enjoy.

There’s plenty to do for all the family with favourite activities including canoe/kayak descents, visits to prehistoric sights, mountain biking, horse riding and fishing. Or simply enjoying the local markets, such as the one at Sarlat, where you can find gems such as foie gras, truffles, walnut oil and excellent claret at very reasonable prices.

Attractions

There are numerous Dordogne holiday attractions such as the Lascaux cave and Les Eyzies museum and holiday events in Dordogne which you can enjoy on your Dordogne villa holiday.

Travel
Travelling to the Dordogne has become much easier over the last five years with the opening of new motorways, fast train stations and airports. There are direct international flights to Bergerac (EGC), Limoges (LIG), Brive Vallee de la Dordogne (BVE), Toulouse Blagnac (TLS) and Bordeaux (BOD). Flight operators to the Dordogne include Easyjet, Ryanair, Jet2, Flybe, British Airways, KLM and Air France. Self-drive is a popular option with many taking an overnight stop on the way down. You can take the TGV fast train to Angouleme. Note: careful at Brive if arriving on bank holidays as we understand the car hire companies take the day off.

Weather
The climate plays a big part in making holidays in this region so enjoyable, as it is generally warm and pleasant most of the time. The peak summer months can get quite hot but there is a fair chance there will be some rain, just enough to take the edge of the heat and maintain the greenery.
