Villas with private pools in Cotignac, hand picked and visited by Villas Worldwide, highly recommended, one with an endorsement from The Sunday Times.
Located between Aix and St. Tropez, Cotignac rises dramatically at the foot of a rock 80 m high, in a beautiful natural setting. At the centre of the village is the shaded fountain of the Four Seasons, cobbled streets, narrow alleys, old doors. It is also a famous pilgrimage site. Sightseeing: Church of St. Peter's, 12th century, chapel of St. Martin, 9th century, Our Lady of Grace (where Louis XIII consecrated France to the Virgin Mary).
To do: hiking, mountain biking, tennis, bowls, canoeing, pedal boating, windsurfing, climbing, rafting, Lake St. Croix (30 km) and the Gorge du Verdon. The Mediterranean coast is easily accessible for days out, Port Grimaud is 61 km, Frejus 67 km and Hyeres 85 km. You can visit the wine chateau and try tasting too. The fabulous city of Aix en Provence is well worth a visit, it has one of the best outdoor markets in the area and a whole lot more besides 78 km.
The village is surrounded by vineyards which principally produce very good Rosé wine and they need plenty of sunshine. There is plenty of that throughout the year and warm temperatures too from April to October, it gets hot in July and August. There is not much rainfall and occasional wind.
There are relatively good travel options for getting to Cotignac as it is only 32 km from the A8 Autoroute junction at Le Luc. Nice Cote d'Azur airport is 118 km (around one and a half hours drive) and Marseille Provence airport is 100 km (about one and a quarter hours by car). For fast train service the Gare d'Aix en Provence, TGV is 89 km.
