Castel Gandolfo is located on the hills to the south of the centre of Rome overlooking the lake which fills the old volcano crater. Castel Gandolfo is famous as it houses the summer residence of the Pope who has been known to proffer blessings to passers by as he passes around the papal areas. The Popes didn’t choose Castel Gandolfo by chance, it is one of the most picturesque and pleasant town near Rome with a delightful climate which is much appreciated in the height of the season.
