Caribbean holiday events 2011 get under way very soon as the Carnival season begins. Here is the social calendar for the Caribbean for 2011
On right now is the annual Martinique Jazz festival which ends on December 5th having started back in November 27th. Right across Fort-de-France the islands top musicians perform.
The Transmartinique is an annual hike from the north to the south of the island of Martinique between the 10th and 12th December this year. It starts off at Grand Riviere and ends at Sainte-Anne.
The Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe Cliff Diving takes place of Quebrada on December 12th this year. Brave and scary.
Also on December 12th this year is the annual Festival of the Old Creole Song which is hosted at Saint-Francois’s Hotel Golf Village in Guadeloup.
St Barts Music Festival takes place, as it does each year in January, 11th to 19th in 2011. The Anglican and Catholic churches across the island host Jazz, opera and classical concerts.
The annual Guadeloupe International Film Festival is on in venues throughout Guadeloupe in January/February.
The Guadeloupe Carnival is on from 6th January to 6th March over the Carnival period, culminating with Mardi Gras.
The Santo Domingo Carnival in the Dominican Republic is on every Sunday in February, its floats, masks and costume and lots of dancing.
The La Vega Carnival also in the Dominican Republic on Sundays in February and March has a more African biased. It is the island biggest and best carnival.
The Dominican Republic hosts the annual Master of the Ocean contest 22nd to 28th February. It’s a windsurf, surf and Kite surf triathlon for the world’s ocean masters.
St Barths Bucket Regatta takes place 24th to 27th March in 2011. This impressive annual event includes the Gazelles des Mers in the racing class and in the cruising class the Grandes Dames des Mers which are over 100 feet long.
More sailing in Sant Barth 4th to 9th April with the Les Voiles de Saint Barth Regatta.
In May it’s the French Surfing Championship in Guadeloup, over 200 pros compete.
Also in May is the Creole Blues festival in Guadeloupe with artists from the island as well as the Caribbean , the States and Africa.
The West Indies Regatta annual event takes place off St Barts from April 29th to May 1st.
In April it’s the annual St Barth Film Festival which attracts interest from around the world.
The Karujet – Jet Ski World Championship annual event takes place around Guadeloupe in June.
July and August brings the Guadeloup International Zouk Festival which takes place in the main square of Petit Bourg and Laura Fessel Hall.
In August there is the Guadeloupe International Cycling race which attracts cycling teams from around the world to compete over the 1300km circuit.
In November 2011 it is the annual Dominican Republic Jazz festival with concerts in the cultural centre (centro Leon) 25th and Cabarete beach 26th and 27th in Santiago.
