Calvi is a very picturesque resort dominated by the large Genoan fort which tops the hill and looks down over the harbour which is lined with outdoor cafes and restaurants. The town has become increasingly popular in recent years and easy access is facilitated by ferry from mainland France or flights into either Calvi airport or Bastia which is within easy driving distance.

There are numerous boutiques offering interest for the shopper and in June most years the Calvi Jazz festival attracts both locals and visitors alike. To the east of the centre there are large sweeping sandy beaches with plenty of watersports on offer including windsurfing and sailing.

Further along the coast is the attractive coastal resort of L’Ile Rousse which can be accessed by tramway. A little further along is Lozari which is renowned for its beaches.

There are numerous boat trips available, the most spectacular being to the marine nature reserve at Scandola near Porto. Inland there is fabulous walking on high peaks such as Monte Cinto and there is the option of joining the legendary GR20 at its midpoint at Corte, the islands university town.
