Beaches in Brittany, here we have asked our local Breton agent who lives in southern Brittany, to nominate his best five Brittany beaches.
When you see the beaches which Philippe has selected that’s when you realize that there is nothing like good local knowledge, you don’t get that sort of information from guide books or newspapers. Its one of the reasons our selection of villas in Brittany is so good.
First choice is the plage du sud de l’isle de groix which is the only convex stretch of beach in Europe, it forms an arc around the tip of the island of Groix. A really beautiful beach it has the peculiarity of moving position on a regular basis, by at least a couple of metres each year. You can get to Groix by boat from Lorient.
Next is la plage de Kerfany at Moelan sur mer which is a typical family beach in Finistere, Brittany. A gently sloping beach flanked by rocks and a bank covered with pine trees, overlooking islands on the horizon. Just next door at le Pouldu there are three more excellent family beaches.
Then it’s the plage de la Torche on the southern end of the bay of Audierne, which is also the biggest beach in Brittany. The world tour surfing championships are held here. You will find some wonderful photographs of La Torch beach on the website of professional photographer Thierry Weber who specializes in shots of the sea in Brittany and the Vendee thierry-weber.net/article-la-plage-de-la-torche---le-plus-beau-spot-de-bretagne-101715234.html
The plage de la Baie des Trepasses next to the point du Raz, is one of the grandiose natural sites of Brittany. A paradise for swimmers, with often limpid water and incomparable views of the point du Raz on one side, the point du Van on the other and the islands of Sein and Tevenec in front, it is quite a place.
Lastly Philippe agrees with the guide books, many of which nominate la plage de la Baule as the most beautiful beach in Europe. This fine sandy beach stretches from Pouligen to Pornichet and is eight kilometers long.
When you next take a villa holiday in France we hope you enjoy visiting the beaches indicated by Philippe and we suspect you will be a step ahead of the tourists to Brittany who are using the traditional Brittany guide books and information websites.
