Barcelona Cathedral by Gaudi is one of the iconic sights of Spain; it’s strange nobly towers unlike anything found elsewhere in the world.
This amazing Cathedral, also known as the Basilica and Expiatory Church of the Holy Family, or Sagrada Faimia (Basilica I Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia) was designed by the renowned Spanish architect Gaudi who took charge of the project in 1883.
Nearly 130 years after its conception the Church of the Sagrada Familia is reaching completion. The roof is now on and the sound of the Halleluja Chorus echoes around the magnificent interior. The nave was completed and consecrated by the pope last Autumn whilst scooping the cities prize for the top architectural award.
The architecture follows Gaudi’s desire to model buildings along the lines of nature, giving rise to the modular lines of the tree like columns and joining arches which rise triumphantly into the skies above Barcelona.
