Balata Botanical Gardens in Martinique is a superb attraction where holiday makers can enjoy a unique experience in one of the most beautiful private gardens in the Caribbean.
Located about 10 kilometres from Fort de France the Jardin de Balata covers and area of around 3 hectares overlooking the Pitons de Carbet. First established by a Frenchman, Jean-Philippe Thoze, a horticulturist, the garden first opened for visitors in 1986.
Today there are around three thousand different species of exotic plants and over three hundred varieties of palm tree. A new novelty there is the tree walk which gives you a superb elevated view from 15 metres up in the trees. Children over three years old can enjoy the super play park.
