Ajaccio is a large town by Corsican standards and bustles with life throughout the year. The spectacular bay of Ajaccio faces south and offers a number of very pleasant beaches either along the routes des Sanguinieres with its distinctive Venetian watchtower at the end or along the eastern side of the bay. The Port is lively, a favourite with cruise ships and there are super boat trips up and down the coast, particularly to the Scandola nature reserve.
